Acid Techno
Acid Techno is a branch of Techno that emerged in the late 1980s and is defined by the distinctive sound of the Roland TB-303. The acid-like, bubbling sound is created by manipulating the filter and resonance settings of the TB-303. Pioneers such as Hardfloor, DJ Pierre, and Plastikman have significantly shaped Acid Techno. The style is often linked to the Rave culture of the 90s and is marked by hypnotic basslines, high beats per minute, and a psychedelic atmosphere.
Adrián Mills
Adrián Mills is a disc jockey and maker of music, born in Spain and raised in Pforzheim, Germany. His music style is a lively blend of hard techno, early hardstyle, hardcore, and acid, often enriched with street elements and sung parts. He is co-founder of the underground event series Xpand and has played as a resident disc jockey at the Gotec Club in Karlsruhe. In 2021, he founded the label and event organisation 240kmh to unite artists with a hard, gripping sound. Among his well-known tracks are "Ferrari F40" (2021) and "AFTERHOURINPARIS" (2021). Adrián Mills regularly performs at events like Adrenaline in Cologne and has collaborated with artists such as Stef de Haan.
Berghain
Berghain is a legendary Berlin techno club that emerged in 2004 from its predecessor club Ostgut. Known for its strict door policy, long opening hours, and powerful sound, Berghain has established itself as one of the most influential clubs worldwide. The club is known for its purist focus on techno and house, its dark atmosphere, and its Function-One sound system. DJs such as Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, and Boris are closely associated with Berghain.
Core
“Core” is often used as a short form for harder techno styles such as hardcore, speedcore, or terrorcore. These styles are characterized by extreme beats per minute (sometimes over 200 BPM), distorted kick drums, and aggressive sounds. Core is an underground movement that emerged in the 90s from gabber and is often associated with raves and festivals like Masters of Hardcore or Thunderdome.

Detroit Techno
Detroit Techno is one of the original styles of Techno, which arose in the 1980s in Detroit, USA. It was developed by artists such as Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson (“The Belleville Three”). Detroit Techno combines futuristic sounds with funk and electro influences. It is characterized by complex rhythms, atmospheric melodies, and a melancholic, mechanical look.
Dub Techno
combines the repetitive structures of techno with the deep, echoing effects of dub. This subgenre emphasizes atmospheric soundscapes, warm basslines, and the use of echo and reverb to create a hypnotic effect. Pioneers like Basic Channel have significantly shaped this sound.
Free Tekno
is a subgenre of hard techno that became popular in the European free party scene. It is characterized by fast tempos between 150 and 185 beats per minute and a pounding, repetitive bass drum sound. Unlike mainstream hardcore, less distortion is used here.
Gotec
The Gotec is a well-known club in Karlsruhe, famous for its electronic music events and its modern club culture. The club offers a wide range of events from techno, house to drum & bass and regularly attracts both national and international DJs.
With an industrial, minimalist design and a high-quality sound system, the Gotec creates an intense club atmosphere. It is an important meeting place for the local techno scene and is often praised for its energetic nights and diverse programme.
Hard style
developed in the late 1990s in the Netherlands and combines elements of hardcore techno and hard trance. The sound is characterized by hard kickdrums, euphoric melodies, and energetic breakdowns. Well-known acts in this genre are Headhunterz, Wildstylez, and Noisecontrollers.
HÖR Berlin
HÖR Berlin is a well-known online streaming project for electronic music, renowned worldwide for its intimate, minimalist DJ sets. Since its founding, it has developed into one of the most important platforms for underground techno, hard techno, house, and experimental electronic music.

Industrial Techno
originated in the early 1990s and combines the mechanical rhythms of Techno with the harsh, often dark sounds of Industrial music. Characteristic are distorted beats, metallic sounds, and an overall raw aesthetic. Artists like Surgeon and Adam X are well-known representatives of this style.
KitKat
The KitKat is a legendary club in Berlin, known for its blend of techno, fetish, and hedonistic party culture. Since 1994, the club has offered a unique atmosphere with electronic music, a revealing dress code, and an open, sex-positive scene. International DJs regularly perform there, while visitors showcase themselves in creative, fetish-inspired outfits. Strict door policy and no phone use ensure an intimate club experience.
Minimal Techno
is a stripped-down subgenre of techno that emerged in the early 1990s. It is characterized by simple rhythms, sparse melodies, and the deliberate use of silence. Artists such as Richie Hawtin, Robert Hood, and Ricardo Villalobos have significantly shaped this style.
Record label
play a central role in the techno scene. They publish and promote music, thereby supporting new artists. Labels like Tresor, Drumcode, and Ostgut Ton have decisively shaped the sound of the techno scene.
Schranz
describes a particularly harsh and monotonous form of techno, which became popular in the 1990s through artists like Chris Liebing. The term comes from German slang and refers to the metallic-crashing sound of the distorted drums and basses. Schranz has its roots in classic hard techno but is more uncompromising and often industrial-tinged.
Speedcore
is an extremely fast and aggressive form of hardcore techno that emerged in the mid-1990s. With tempos starting at 300 BPM and beyond, speedcore is known for its intense, often distorted beats and an uncompromising sound aesthetic. Subgenres like Splittercore and Extratone push the tempo even higher.
Techno Viking
became an internet sensation in the early 2000s. A video from a Berlin techno parade shows a muscular man who keeps order while dancing. The video went viral and made him a meme, although he himself never appeared publicly.
Uptempo Hardcore
is an extremely fast and aggressive form of hardcore techno with beats per minute well over 200. The style combines distorted kicks, piercing leads, and dark samples. Uptempo is especially popular in the Netherlands and Germany, often linked with gabber and Frenchcore.
Zeus
Zeus is a Hard-Techno and Industrial-Techno disc jockey as well as a producer, known for his brutal, fast, and energetic sound. His tracks are marked by distorted kicks, dark atmospheres, and driving industrial elements, which find particular favor in the European rave and underground scene.
